Biomedical Research Funding

Each year, Congress appropriates funding for NIH, including the National Cancer Institute (NCI), which conducts research on childhood cancer and funds clinical trials at children's hospitals and academic medical centers around the country.

President Bush's FY2008 budget plan requests $28.9 billion for the National Institutes of Health (NIH) and $4.8 billion for the National Cancer Institute (NCI), $9 million less than last year's proposal request.

Status
Introduced by the President on February 5, 2007.

Children's Cause for Cancer Advocacy Position
The Children's Cause for Cancer Advocacy supports a substantial increase in NIH funding despite the difficult fiscal climate. Any lessening of the federal commitment to research on childhood cancer will slow progress toward greater understanding and successful treatment of our children.
