Washington, DC – Maureen Lilly, a long-time member of the Children’s Cause for Cancer Advocacy’s (CCCA) Board of Directors, has been appointed to the position of Executive Director. Lilly has been an active and committed member of CCCA’s Board since 2000, serving as Treasurer and key advisor.
As Executive Director, Lilly will manage day-to-day operations and guide the organization toward achieving the mission of CCCA, which is to achieve access to less toxic and more effective therapies, expand resources for research and specialized care, and address the unique needs and challenges of childhood cancer survivors and their families through policy development and advocacy.
“Many of those involved with the Children’s Cause have experienced the life-altering impact of pediatric cancer. No matter the outcome, it sets you on a different path,” Lilly said. “I am thrilled to be working with this team, the CCCA board, and our wonderful staff to improve the therapy options for our children and to increase support for survivors of childhood cancer.”
Prior to joining CCCA, Lilly worked for the National Hospice Foundation as the Director of Planned Giving and Stewardship, where she established a planned giving program. Before that, she served as the Administrator of the Center for Palliative Care Studies, working on joint projects between RAND Corporation, a global think tank, and The Washington Home, which provides long-term and hospice care in Washington, D.C. In addition to her expertise in finances and grants, Lilly has an extensive background in nonprofit management, as the Executive Director of a technology association and as the supervisor of a national presidential campaign.
The cause of childhood cancer is close to Lilly and her family, who lost their daughter Becca to a brain tumor in 1997. The Lilly family founded Becca’s Run, a 5K run held annually in Maryland to raise funds to benefit children with cancer. Maureen Lilly serves as president of Becca’s Run.
CCCA is a leading national advocacy organization that works to achieve access to less toxic and more effective therapies, expand resources for treatment, and address the needs and challenges of childhood cancer survivors and their families. CCCA works to ensure that these needs and perspectives are integrated into the highest deliberations of cancer policy.
