National Cancer Institute
The National Cancer Institute (NCI) leads our nation's research effort to conquer cancer by conducting, coordinating, and funding cancer research. NCI funds networks of children's hospitals and academic medical centers to conduct research on childhood cancer. These clinical and basic research networks include the Children's Oncology Group, the Pediatric Brain Tumor Consortium, and the New Approaches to Neuroblastoma Therapy Consortium. NCI also supports an intramural program of laboratory and clinical research on childhood cancer. Through its policy deliberations and decision-making authority, NCI's national cancer program creates the vision, priorities, and planning for research in childhood cancer in the United States. NCI seeks advice from scientific, health care, policy, and lay experts through advisory groups and panels. About NIH The National Institutes of Health (NIH) is the world's premier medical research organization and is compromised of 27 separate institutes and centers. NIH's mission is to uncover knowledge that will lead to better health for everyone through conducting research in its own laboratories; supporting the research of non-federal scientists in universities, medical schools, hospitals, and research institutions throughout the country and abroad; helping in the training of research investigators; and fostering communication of medical information. |
