Silver Spring, MD -- Lori A. Salley, a well-respected government affairs professional and long-time Capitol Hill aide, has been named Executive Director of the Children's Cause for Cancer Advocacy (CCCA), a national non-profit organization that works to facilitate new treatments for childhood cancer patients and address the needs of survivors through public forums, policy development, and advocacy.

"We are thrilled to have Lori take the helm of the Children's Cause. Her breadth of experience in Washington and long association with the childhood cancer community through her work on Capitol Hill will allow CCCA to make great strides for children who are fighting and surviving pediatric cancer," said Dr. Susan Weiner, president of CCCA.

As Executive Director, Salley will manage the day-to-day operations of CCCA and direct the organization's policy department, advocacy efforts, and educational programs for survivors.

"When Congresswoman Pryce lost her daughter to neuroblastoma in 1999, Dr. Weiner and the Children's Cause were among the very first to reach out to lend support," said Salley. "Since then, I have been impressed by CCCA's thoughtful and tireless work to improve the lives of children with cancer. It is an honor to have the opportunity to advance the organization's mission and ensure that the unique needs of children fighting this dreaded disease are understood and met by Washington's policy makers."

Prior to joining CCCA, Salley worked as a consultant and Senior Government Relations Advisor at Womble Carlyle Sandridge & Rice, PLLC, where she counseled clients on legislative strategies and government policy in the areas of health care, financial services, and trade.

Salley spent more than 17 years working in the U.S. House of Representatives, most recently as Chief of Staff to Representative Deborah Pryce (OH-15), Chair of the House Cancer Caucus and the highest ranking woman ever to serve in House Republican leadership. In this role, Salley managed both the Washington and Ohio offices, and served as the principal advisor on legislative, communications, and political strategy. She aided the Congresswoman in the development and passage of numerous bills to enhance research and improve treatments for children with cancer, including the Caroline Pryce Walker Conquer Childhood Cancer Act of 2008.

While on the Hill, Salley also served the House leadership as Deputy Chief of Staff of the Republican Conference, charged with advancing the party's legislative agenda through communications and coalition efforts. She also worked as staff on the House Rules Committee and the House Small Business Committee.

Salley earned her B.A. in Political Science with an emphasis in Business Administration from UCLA.

CCCA is a leading national advocacy organization that works to achieve access to less toxic and more effective therapies, expand resources for treatment, and address the needs and challenges of childhood cancer survivors and their families. CCCA works to ensure that these needs and perspectives are integrated into the highest deliberations of cancer policy.
